AXIA K-Metal compact cassette tape

  • by

Maybe you have never heard of AXIA so far but sure you know FUJI. Indeed this stylish AXIA K-Metal compact cassette type IV tape (KMC 54) was made by FUJI Photo Film – obviously in Japan. The AXIA brand got the keywords #trendy, #quality and #creative. To me, the design of the packaging still looks cool in 2021 and if you look closely, you can spot various design elements like arrows (in the “negative space) and play, back and forward buttons. We see this compact cassette in the LCC Mid-Range category #13.

Talking about design: Firstly have a look at the black slim case. Back then it sure was #trendy and #creative. Secondly I like the bold statement “new generation sound for music fans that begins a whole new era in audio” – awesome, right? In addition, “AXIA’s stable tape running mechanism” reflects the #quality approach FUJI put into this AXIA K-Metal compact cassette type IV tape.

Look and feel, the packaging, the case, inlay and the compact cassette itself made a mint impression. Really fascinating after all those years! Have a look for yourself in the Tape-Meditation #4 over at YouTube. If you follow this blog from time to time, you already know, that now it’s time to look at the frequency response of this AXIA K-Metal compact cassette type IV metal tape…

Frequency response: AXIA K-Metal compact cassette

Frequency response of AXIA K-Metal 54 auto-bias m.1
AXIA K-Metal 54 – NO auto-bias

AXIA’s claim for #quality is also shown here in the frequency response. It is overall linear and auto-bias made just a little difference in the higher frequencies above 1 kHz. The K-Metal compact cassette tape is a little sensible in the meaning of how it handles loud dynamics. In direct comparison to the That’s MR-X PRO compact cassette it was a little softer in loudness and distorted more easy with unpleasant clipping.

To sum it up, it is a good Mid-Range type IV metal compact cassette with #quality. Get your headphones ready and listen for yourself 🙂
